It is correctly known as refined bitumen. IT also is known sometimes as “asphalt cement” or “asphalt”. Although “asphalt” is the term used for a mixture of small stones, sand, filler and bitumen, which is used as a road paving material. • Paving Grades – road surfacing, and some industrial applications
• Hard Grades – paints and enamels etc
• Oxidised/Blown Grades – roofing, waterproofing, electrical products, and many others
• Cutback – spraying and some mixing applications
• Emulsions – used largely in road surfacing applications
• Polymer Modified Binders (PMBs) – there are different types and they can be used for many of the applications mentioned above

Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties.Penetration Grade’s are specified by the penetration and softening point test. Designation is by penetration range only. The penetration grades have a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. This unique temperature/ viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, theology, durability and application temperatures .
